Hi Reader,
Next week, it's the first day of school here in my community. I love the "shorter summer" approach our school district does, where summer break for kids is just 7 weeks and the "extra time" is built in as a double-length spring break + a 2-week fall break every October. My wish, though? That the back-to-school vibes were paired with some fall weather. That is probably a few months out for us, sadly.
Let's get to your Friday Five, shall we?
Little things that make a big difference: My daughter recently told me that I should share this in Friday Five, which was heartwarming to hear. I leave little Post-it notes in my kids' rooms with compliments, memories, or things I'm looking forward to related to them. I have a reminder on my phone to help me do it once a week - one week for one kid and the next week for the other. Even though my kids are getting older (they're 10 and 12 now), they both seem to find these little notes meaningful (my daughter said, "Well I mean, of course I like them - that's why I leave them up!"). ๐ โ
Two really excellent short-term deals: Costcoโs got a membership deal for $15 for a year (you pay $65, they give you back $50) through 8/2, and my CAKES code (JESSICAEAST) is temporarily 31% off. I love these things so much, and especially in the summertime for swimming + tank tops and such. If you wear bras and you don't yet have a pair of CAKES, get you some with this discount before it goes away. โ
4 ideas for doing some good this weekend: I wrote this blog about 4 Impactful Ways To Be A Better Person because I know so many of us care deeply about making the world a better place. These are 4 little things you can do - check it out and see if one of them makes sense for you to do in the next few days. โ
Moรฉrie for thin hair: I have pretty thin hair, so lately I've been using this hair care set (shampoo, conditioner, spray, and mask) with fulvic acid and I'm really liking it. If you're dealing with the same thing, I'd say it's worth trying out! โ
Coming up in August within the Society: You know that one thing โ the project that's been quietly nagging at you for months, maybe years? The passport that's expired. The blog you keep meaning to start. The photos you want to digitize. The will, the filing system, the inbox that's gotten away from you. It's time to finally get to it. Our Get It Done Weeks in the Joyfully Managed Life Society are when we stop letting those things live on a someday list. You name your project, you commit to it, and I create the space, structure, and support to actually get it done. You'll get coaching and advice when you're stuck, accountability so you can't let it slide, prizes to make it fun ๐, and multiple body-double co-working sessions where we work quietly together on Zoom โ you on your thing, me cheering you on. One week. One project you've been avoiding. Finally finished. Join us if that sounds fun to you. Society members also get to join both of these upcoming workshops!
Bonus Sponsor Resource: The 10-minute podcast hack. This week's time-saver: stop defaulting to full episodes. DistillCast turns every new episode of your shows into a power-packed 10-minute audio briefing. Listen on the school run or while making dinner, then only play the full episode when it's actually worth two hours of your week. Ten hours of listening becomes fifty minutes โ a whole day's worth of time back every week. Setup takes two minutes, there's no new app to install (it works with the podcast app you already use), and it's free while in beta โ no credit card required. Join the free beta. This resource is from one of our Friday Five sponsors - thank you to them for keeping this newsletter free for readers!
