When I'm going to be out of the office, I typically write Friday Five a week or so in advance so that I can fully unplug. But this time, I just honestly didn't get to it before needing to head to the airport for a really fun trip with my family and some of our friends. So I'm writing to you between chats with some of my favorite people before heading off to a delicious lunch and maybe even a nap this afternoon. Some of the tips in this week's issue have come from our experiences on this exact trip - I hope at least one is useful for you!
Let's get to your Friday Five!
Set up multiple faces to unlock your phone: If you have an iPhone, did you know you can add another person's face to unlock your phone in addition to yours? My husband and I have this setup on each other's phones for easy borrowing when we need to get something done. Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode, enter your passcode, and tap "Set Up an Alternate Appearance" to register a new face following the on-screen prompts.
What are you using vibe coding for? So I've been playing around with some "vibe coding" (essentially just describing something you want to build online and having tools create the code for you). I have coded a script that automatically color-codes my Google Calendar, for example. I made this tool for my workshop clients in about 20 minutes using Canva's vibe coding tool. My friend Atnre has been using Lovable (see the "build in minutes" link below today's tips to see what I'm talking about) to make more than one really cool tool for nonprofit leaders to make their lives easier, and he's inspiring me to think more about what to use these tools for. I thought it'd be great to round up ideas from all of you and share them back next week, so hit reply and tell me what you've been doing with vibe coding tools and inspire the rest of us!
Lofi Girl: Friday Fiver Katie (thanks!) shared this YouTube channel with me that I've been enjoying. It's great background music along with a video that brings a little bit of that "coworking" kinda vibe to whatever you're doing. Try it in the background as you're finishing going through your email inbox today!
Weekend Reset Workshop: Next week, I'm doing a workshop (10 a.m. PT on Tuesday the 14th) to share all about what might be the best home-related system I've ever created: the weekend reset. It's only for members of The Joyfully Managed Life Society, so come on in and join us if you'd like to be there! Replay available, of course, if you can't make it live. Society member Danielle asked me to share more about what this is, and here's what I shared, "Weekend reset is basically how we reset the house for the coming week - like doing tasks that make sense on a weekly basis and sharing the load so that it's not just one of us doing it and it also makes it easier to just do it all in a batch instead of having to remember to clean the cat water bowl and charge the reading lights up and such. It also just gets us refreshed on some things that we often do more than once a week, but this gets them all done at least once a week - tasks like really making sure every kitchen counter is wiped down, the basket of stuff to go upstairs is emptied, etc. We've learned a lot in trying it out and have tweaked it in a handful of ways to make it work, and I'll be sharing all about it and answering questions to make the concept work for different people's situations."
Got a laptop to donate? I came across this awesome way to put laptops you're no longer using to good use. Check it out. Send it to your IT team if you work at a large org, too, because they might have a good number of laptops they can pass along to a good cause.
Bonus Sponsor Resource: If you need a retreat: One of the best parts of this trip away is time with my friends who are as close as family. But also? I really love the alone time I can often find during these trips, too, because my kids and husband have plenty of folks to spend time with, and I can sneak away. So I've shared this before, but wanted to share again - Stephanie's free retreat guide helps you set up your own private mini-retreat—creating a quiet pocket of time that truly feels like a retreat, even if you can’t get away. With a few thoughtful choices about when, where, and how you pause, you’ll create a nourishing reset that helps you settle your nervous system and arrive more grounded and present (so you’re not starting from stress when you sit down to practice). My suggestion: grab this, then go find an actual time on your calendar in the next 3 months when you can make some time "away" (even if still at home) happen. This resource is from one of our Friday Five sponsors - thank you to them for keeping this newsletter free for readers!
