Jessica’s Friday Five: make these tomorrow with your Halloween haul
Published 3 days ago • 2 min read
Hi Reader,
With a ton of really devastating news across the world this week, I do hope that, if you are celebrating Halloween today, you take some comfort in the small joys that sustain us through hard times. Keep an eye out for a cute costumed kid or savor some of your favorite candy, and then check in on someone you love to see how they're doing today.
Let's get to your Friday Five!
Post-Halloween treat: We made these last year - total hit. Halloween candy cookies. Yes, ridiculous. I don't care. I'll be making these tomorrow FOR SURE after tonight's candy haul graces our home. If you make them too, let me know how they turn out!
Two simple good deeds you can do in a minute or two: How many people can you name who are engaged in efforts that you value right now? Politicians? Community organizers? Friends? Family members? How would it affect you and your community if they became disheartened by stress and negativity and stopped doing that work? My former colleague, Garrett Bucks, shares in this article how showing our gratitude and support to those doing the work can make a difference. Speaking of fuel, tens of millions of Americans will have their SNAP benefits cut starting tomorrow. Not only is food fuel, but it is a basic human right. You may or may not know those around you who use these benefits (but 1 in 4 American children relies on SNAP to stay fed), but one way you can help is to share this resource (on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) so that those who need it can get support in finding food.
Advice for new managers: Last month, I was featured in this Atlassian article, sharing my tips for delegating well and showing appreciation at work. The article is chock-full of advice from other leaders that is sure to be helpful. If this kind of content is helpful, be sure you're signed up for this.
Soup, anyone? As temps drop and sweaters come out, what better way is there to turn up the cozy vibes than with a delicious bowl of soup? I just ordered the November soups box from Beehive (code JESSICA gets you $10 off)—these are so helpful to have in the freezer when you just need an easy meal. I tend to get a box from them every 3-4 months, and it saves the day with some regularity.
Reinvent Yourself: If you’re ready to take control of your life, C. Daley’s book Reinvent Yourself: A Guide on Personal Growth is helpful. Full of real advice and practical strategies, you’re sure to walk away with tips and tools to make lasting change.
Bonus Sponsor Resource - iPhone Life: Your iPhone is getting a dramatic update with iOS 26. Between meetings, your kid’s extracurriculars, and everything else on your plate, the last thing you have time for is figuring out Apple’s latest iOS update. But iOS 26 is the biggest change to the iPhone in over a decade — and it’s packed with tools that can actually save you time (once you know how to use them). That’s why I recommend iPhone Life Tip of the Day — a free newsletter that teaches you one useful iPhone tip each day. Clear instructions. Step-by-step screenshots.
