Jessica's Friday Five: my husband is finally joining me

Hi Reader,

I've been doing a lot of "scrubbing" my email list lately! If folks aren't opening emails for several months, I'm gently letting them go to help keep my email list healthy and engaged. Thanks for staying engaged - opening emails, clicking on things that interest you, and replying to me. It's so lovely to be connected to the 12k+ of you, and I genuinely enjoy hearing from you.

And one of you is the lucky winner of Unmuted: Leaders Discover Their Voice to Speak Up and Stand Out from last week's giveaway! The winner of the book is William! Thanks to Friday Fiver Michelle (and one of the book's authors!) for making the giveaway happen.

Now, let's get to your Friday Five:

  1. Happy Juneteenth to all celebrating today! If you're, like me, a non-Black person in the US wanting to celebrate today, one way is to spend your resources at Black-owned businesses or restaurants in your neighborhood (find some here if you're in a medium-to-large city: https://www.byblack.us/explore). If there's a Juneteenth celebration today or this weekend in your town, attend! Listen more than you speak and remember and respect that Black culture is the centerpiece of these celebrations. Have fun!
  2. Love all things Disney? My friend and former colleague Melissa shared about the Disney Lofi channel, and it's been my go-to for focused work music this week. There’s a YouTube playlist and one on Spotify.
  3. Make dinner easier: I’ve got a new blog post with 5 tips for making dinner easier. It covers things from what to do with the end pieces of bread that nobody wants, to how to reduce decision fatigue when planning weekly dinners, and our recipe binder system that works for us.
  4. First-ever workshop appearance by my husband: Are you pretty sure you should be replacing some sort of filter somewhere in your house, but aren't sure when that last happened? Or you want to be the kind of person who remembers to run the cleaning cycle on your washing machine on a regular rhythm? With a simple system, this can be you without a ton of time on your part. Next weekend, my husband (his first time joining me!) and I will lead a workshop to walk through how we stay on top of our home maintenance — including our actual task list, the binder system we use, and the free apps that make it easy. Join us - tickets are just $27, and you'll walk out having made real progress on your own systems. If you're already a Society member, don't buy a ticket because your membership includes live workshops like this.
  5. For the birthday kid: One of my kids has a birthday around this time of year, and I was looking into whether there are free kids' birthday things near us and decided - why not just make a list of spots that treat kids specially on their birthday to share with all the Friday Fivers? So I did that. Snooze this email if you have a birthday coming up for a kid in your life in the future, to remember it at the right time.

Bonus Sponsor Resource: Glow Beam: I try to upgrade at least one glass of water a day in my life with some electrolytes or other beneficial stuff, and the last few weeks that's been almost exclusively this stuff (I have the raspberry flavor, which I really like; haven't yet tried the others!). It's a blend for women's hormonal health, collagen, and healthy hair, skin, and nails. I've been a Beam customer for many years (their sleep hot chocolate is my ride-or-die, and over the last few months I've been taking their creatine gummies to help with midlife muscle-building), so I'm glad they've made this new product, too. I just checked, and my code FRIDAYFIVE still works for a significant discount (25%-40%, depending on the product). This resource is from one of our Friday Five sponsors - thank you to them for keeping this newsletter free for readers!

Last Friday's Most-Clicked Link: The Pet Collar QR tag I got for my one-year-old escape artist cat Jake (free, but you gotta pay a few bucks for shipping).
