Jessica's Friday Five: One swimsuit tip that could save a life this summer

Hi Reader,

May starts today, but the May vibes have felt present the entire month of April in my world. I am already exhausted from all that's going on in our little lives, and that doesn't even include trying to be a good steward of the broader world at the same time. If you're feeling the same, the tips I'm telling myself right now are to lower the stakes (in my world, May is not a month for a lot of creative cooking and new recipes, for example, nor is it time to take on that nice-to-have decluttering project in the garage), to let rest be a priority (and to reminde myself that scrolling is not rest - in fact, it is stimulation dressed up as rest and never makes me feel more rested), and to remember that most things are just not that important.

OK, let's get to your Friday Five!

  1. Two new blog posts: I wrote about some unconventional travel tips here on my blog, and I guest blogged on Abundant Forest Life about simple ways to show up for your community and the broader world. Tip #6 on that second blog is one I'm noodling about myself as we move towards summer - considering a weekly "ice cream" meetup that has us hitting all the ice cream spots in our town by the end of summer and inviting friends to join us.
  2. Safe swimsuit colors: If you've got kids in your life who will be swimming this summer, stay away from blue, green, turquoise, etc., when buying swimsuits. Here's an article (with a helpful visual) that shows you why you want to move more toward really bright colors like yellow, orange, and red.
  3. Time to book summer workshops: If your team could use some support with a team retreat or a professional development workshop this summer or early fall, now's the time to book that if you'd like to work together. Curious what topics I generally get hired to lead, and what the pricing looks like? All of that is here. I love supporting teams to create healthy productivity and joyful team cultures. Right now, I still have space in these weeks to lead workshops or retreats: Week of June 8, Week of June 22, Week of July 13, and the Week of July 20.
  4. Make time for energizing projects: Another busy-season reminder for me is to make time for fun projects. And right now? This new email list is SO fun. I'm delighted that hundreds of you agree and have already hopped in. This week, that early crew got to hear from me about a heated eye mask deal (37 cents each!), ideas for how to gift them, and my all-time favorite kitchen item that most folks have never even heard of. Thank you for giving me space to share fun things - it truly is a total energizer for me. Next week I'll share a few more top fave items I use every single day - can't wait! If you wanna get those notes, put your email here and you're in!
  5. Awesome doc/spreadsheet formatting shortcut: I taught my middle schooler this week about the "paint format" trick, and it reminded me how I was several years into my professional career before I happened to see my colleague Seth do it on his screen and learned for myself how useful it was. Let's say, for example, that you want this cell in the spreadsheet to look exactly like that other cell (same font color, background, italics, and centered), or if you want all the headings in your document to have the same size and color, and indentation - that's when you use paint format. Look for a paint roller/paintbrush icon in the toolbar (usually near the top left). Select the text that already has the formatting you want, click that icon, then click the text you want to reformat — and boom, it copies everything over in one shot. Bold, italic, font size, all of it. Big saver of tedious energy, that's for sure.

Last Friday's Most-Clicked Link: The new flat-top Beehive meals you can order and stick in the freezer for busy nights. This past Monday, my husband had time between dropping kids off at their various activities, so he took an extra 10 minutes and turned our Beehive cilantro chicken into taquitos (an idea on their website). Total crowd pleaser.
