Jessica's Friday Five: the 30-second email undo button

Hi Reader,

A special shout-out to everyone who joined yesterday for the Team Communication Expectations workshop! Really impressed by the progress everyone made in just an hour.

On a separate topic, I have found myself in the role of co-president of my youngest's school PTA(ish) organization this coming year - anyone else here helping out in a leadership role in a parents club/PTO/PTA org at your kids' school? Let me know. Maybe we can share some tips with each other!

Let's get to your Friday Five:

  1. If you hit “send” before you’re ready: Have you ever accidentally hit send on a half-finished email — or spotted a typo the exact second it flew off into the interwebs? If you answered "no"... I don't believe you. Lol. Turns out Gmail knows us (humans) so well that it gives us a built-in 5-second "Undo" on every send by default. But let's be real — 5 seconds is barely enough time to register what you've done, let alone get over to the undo link and click it. So you can stretch your "Undo Send" window. You can extend it to up to 30 seconds (that's how I have mine set).

    Gmail:
Go to Settings → See all settings, find the Undo Send section, and change the cancellation period to what you want for yourself.

Outlook: Use a rule to set this up similarly (here's how).
  2. For the ones raising boys: Next Tuesday, I'm going to this. If you're raising a boy, I wanted to let you know about an event my friend Rachel Sklar is hosting in her boy mom community. Rachel is partnering with Amy Lang of Birds & Bees & Kids to help parents navigate the hormonal changes that can sneak up on both kids and parents. Amy is one of the country's leading experts on puberty and family sexuality education. You'll learn:
    • When and how to start talking about puberty
    • How to make conversations feel natural instead of awkward
    • What boys need to know before their bodies begin to change
    • Simple ways to become the trusted adult your son turns to with questions
  3. If you're using Asana: One of the most common workshop topics for me when companies hire me is about how to best use Asana. Here's a tip for any Asana users out there.
  4. Bought another one of these: We got my dad a Nokbox last year to get his various official papers organized, and he told me this week that it was "such a relief" to have it all together now that he took some time to put things into the various folders. It turned the pretty overwhelming task of "get all your papers organized" into a much more manageable one. My husband is headed out soon to visit my in-laws to help them with a move, so we decided to get them one too. We got them the upgraded firebox version because it's actually cheaper right now than the regular ones due to a sale (not sure when that ends). Definitely can recommend this product!

  5. Reminder to Use Your Free Meeting Ice Breaker List: You already have access to my free PDF of meeting ice breaker questions. If you haven't used it in a while, you can bookmark that link for easy access when you're scrambling before a meeting but want a moment of connection.
