Jessica's Friday Five: the $4 binder that runs our house

Hi Reader,

It’s been a busy week for me. We started Joyfully Managed Worklife cohort 6 (hit reply if you'd be interested in a January cohort, and if so, what time/date each week would be your preference for live sessions), started a large global project management series for leaders across 24 countries, and also helped the events staff behind an NBA and WNBA team with their pre-season offsite facilitation.

Shanah tovah to all who are celebrating Rosh Hashanah this weekend! Let's get to your Friday Five:

  1. If you're an Etsy shopper, here's a tip: If you've got a little time before you need to make a purchase (or you're just browsing for ideas), click the "Favorite" (heart) button on an item, or add it to your cart. Then come back the next day. I've noticed that many Etsy sellers have automations that send you a coupon in your notifications if you've favorited an item or added it to your cart but haven't purchased it yet. You can try it out on this shirt I just bought and can't stop wearing every time it's clean.
  2. The home maintenance thing Jon and I do: With Ron's suggestion (thanks!), I put our home maintenance workshop up as a recording — how we decide what to do and how often, how we split who owns what, and the $4 binder that holds all our house records. $9, and it comes with a starter list of 30 tasks you can steal. Go grab it, find an hour to work through it, and you'll feel so accomplished and organized about keeping your home in a good place.
  3. Your body is so forgiving: I liked this quote! “As a doctor, I wish more people knew it is rarely too late. Lungs begin recovering after the last cigarette. The liver begins healing when alcohol is stopped. Muscles respond to training even in your 80s. Blood pressure can improve within weeks of walking. The body forgives more than people expect. Start today, wherever you are.” –Dr. Brandon Luu
  4. Next week's workshop: I’m teaching a workshop on Best Practices of Excellent Managers next week (Thursday at noon Eastern), and I’d love for you to be there! We’ll cover how to clearly communicate your management style, reduce bias while hiring, create clarity around priorities and roles, and more. Get your ticket here to join us!
  5. Halloween good deed: I just ordered my annual set of Halloween-themed seed packets from Save Our Monarchs to pass out to trick-or-treaters next month. I always offer candy and these seed packets, and they can take both or pick one. I'm always surprised by how delighted the kids are to get a packet of seeds! They're for milkweed, which supports monarch butterflies and brings them to your neighborhood when your neighbors start planting them.

Bonus Sponsor Resource: Behind the Build: Most AI advice is someone telling you what's possible. This is different. Business owners opened up one real thing they built with AI, start to finish. What it is, why they made it, what it was costing them before, and the exact shortcut you can copy right away. No videos. No live sessions. Every build is written so you can quickly skim, find the problem you have, and steal what they're sharing. You could have most of these running in your own business by the weekend. Free to join until September 30th. This resource is from one of our Friday Five sponsors - thank you to them for keeping this newsletter free for readers!
