Jessica's Friday Five: the best day to buy gas

Hi Reader,

This weekend, we're taking my daughter and her friend to Stars on Ice, where the US Olympic Figure Skating team is performing in a nearby city. If you're in the US, have seen this show, and have any tips, send them my way!

Let's get to your Friday Five, shall we?

  1. Best day of the week to buy gas: I saw a study on the weekly rhythms of gas prices and found that the best days to get gas are Sunday and Monday. Around the world, gas prices are soaring, so every little bit counts.
  2. School Calendars: Agenda Hero is doing some heroic work out here, making these school district calendars available so any parent can easily add school breaks and last days of school to their calendar. Find your school district here, and if it's not there yet, you can request that they add it for you. Amazing.

  3. Share with a graduate: I've been a huge fan of Ify Walker for years, and I loved this piece she wrote for recent college graduates. Share it with someone who could use it!
  4. Workshops Scheduled! I just scheduled 3 workshops for the next 3 months - two on work-related topics and one for home. The first one will guide you (with template language you can borrow) to create a 'management memo' to better lead your team, the second is about creating a real-life home maintenance system (my husband will join for that one to share what we do together), and the third will help you create a plan and a strong draft of a set of team communications norms for your team at work. Get your tickets here for 1, 2, or all 3. Or join The Joyfully Managed Life Society, because these workshops are included for all members.
  5. Summer Screen Time Planning: My kids are going to be home more than in the past this summer, and my husband and I have been chatting about how important it's gonna be for us to get really clear about what screen time looks like for them this summer. Thank goodness Rachel (my real-life nearby friend) is doing a workshop on this exact topic next week. Rachel Sklar has helped hundreds of parents, especially the strong-willed, screen-glued kind, get real results without turning into the screen police. There's an option on both Wednesday and Thursday to meet different schedule needs. See you there?

Bonus Sponsor Resource: AARP Membership: I'll be honest — I assumed AARP was for people in another generation than me, and I put off joining way longer than I should have, but I've now been an AARP member for several years. Turns out you only need to be 18, and right now you can join for $11 a year (!!) because of their Memorial Day sale. It unlocks discounts on hotels, car rentals, restaurants, prescriptions, Disney tickets, oil changes, and even 25% off movie tickets and snacks at most major chains. I did the math after our family cruise a few years back, and the membership had paid for itself many times over on that trip alone. This resource is from one of our Friday Five sponsors - thank you to them for keeping this newsletter free for readers!
