Jessica's Friday Five: The "grid" method that changed my week
Published 24 days ago • 3 min read
Hi Reader,
School starts next week for our local public schools in my community, and I'm flabbergasted that the "back to school" season is here (the temps still scream summer, as some of the memes I posted this morning attest to).
But I'm also totally delighted by it. I love the back-to-routine vibes, I love the excitement of all the preparation (even if it's also overwhelming), and I'm hopeful that things go well for my daughter and her friends as they embark on their first days of middle school.
Before we get to this week's five tips, 3 of you who clicked in last week's Friday Five won a book of your choice - see me pick the winners!
"Grid Day" to get things done: For over a decade, I've been committed to my "3 Ms" way of planning my day, but this week Jamie shared this grid idea. I used it almost every day this week and loved it. Depending on what you need to get done in a given day, the grid approach might be a really effective way to move through your list. It helped me spend less time deciding what to do next and more time just getting stuff done. Try it and let me know if it works for you!
Quick media literacy/body image video to show kids: If you have kids in your life, this quick video from Konika would be a good one to show them - can they identify which image is real? Check the caption for some great Qs to ask them to continue the conversation.
Need design or content support? I work with two part-time teammates on my team, and one of them can currently add some more clients. She's truly the BEST. Her name is Christine, and she's a genius at design projects and content update projects (updating copy on websites, in courses, etc.) and streamlining across branding. Many of the designs you see on my social media and in my free and paid products are the result of her incredible skills. I'm happy to connect you with her (just hit reply) if you'd like to learn more. Her prices and packages are also available on her website. Seriously, grab up her capacity before someone else does.
I signed up for a free year of Craftsy. Ok so several of my friends love Craftsy - I've seen them post on social about it over the years. It's basically a whole bunch of classes about how to do fun art projects (at least, that's what I thought - read on...). I have been "hobby shopping" for a bit and so when I saw that you can sign up for an entire year free (as long as you do it by next week when July ends) I figured even if I just do one class, why wouldn't I sign up? It's usually $123, so that's a great deal. Once I signed up this week, I realized it has stuff I didn't even expect - like a meal prep class! I'm thinking my first class will be either a drawing class or a baking class...
How to take pain meds:This pharmacist's video about how to properly dose ibuprofen and Tylenol for pain relief, while avoiding liver and stomach damage, really resonates with my experience. When I was a teenager dealing with cramps, a doctor told me to take 800mg of ibuprofen instead of just 400mg, and that higher dose made a huge positive difference for me. It's quick and really helpful.
Bonus Sponsor Resource: Bioma Health has to be back in this spot because y'all have been digging this! It's so fun to hear that you are enjoying these probiotics too (I've now been taking them for a few months). So, of course, I asked them for a discount for us, and they said yes! Woot. Use code JST10to try it out (or to get a refill if needed). It gets you 10% off and doesn't expire, so come back and use it again and again if you want. This resource is from one of our Friday Five sponsors - thank you to them for keeping this newsletter free for readers!

P.S.Thank you, Cheryl, for getting me a timer from my wishlist last month! I love it. I appreciate you so much.
