Jessica's Friday Five: the grocery hack I missed

Hi Reader,

Thanks for the kind words so many of you sent last week about my friend Matt, who recently passed away. I am grateful to be a part of this thoughtful Friday Five community. This week I did my best to be present and grateful with all of my blessings as I know he would have wanted me to - a baseball game with friends, my daughter's orchestra concert, my son's grade-school music performance, getting to Pilates classes even when my to-do list or grief tries to tempt me to skip it, and seeing many of you live for a workshop earlier this week.

Congrats to Jill, who won the signed book giveaway (Big Time by Laura Vanderkam) from last week! It was a fun diversion to get to pick a winner yesterday. I started my copy of the book this week, and I anticipate it'll be near the top of my 2026 favorite reads.

Vote below for where I should donate $257 on behalf of all of you! And now let's get to your Friday Five.

  1. Slack Tip: I was doing office hours this week with a team of folks I'm helping implement Asana, and while we were screen-sharing, I noticed someone was grabbing info from a Slack message to themselves, so I commented on how I use that same strategy! Others in the room didn't even know that was possible, so she (hi Michelle!) and I shared the different ways we find it helpful. If you're a Slack user, you can DM yourself for all sorts of reasons - to save some info you're gonna need to copy/paste, to get text or images from one device to another (like your computer to your phone or vice-versa), or just to draft something or take notes.
  2. Did you know you can get fewer or more emails from me? Scroll down to the "Manage Your Profile" link below, and you can get really specific about the types of emails you want from me since we've got Friday Five, Tuesday Tips, Jess's Product Picks, Jess's Monthly Management Memo, Jess's Bite-Sized Business Boosts, and even emails just for parents. You decide!
  3. Another interesting "vibe-coding" example: My friend Brandon captured how he used vibe-coding to save himself time with a swim schedule that changes every week for his two kids on his website. A helpful example that is super-similar to my own experience! If you're a Joyfully Managed Life Society member, you can see a video answer here in our Q&A section, which I made for Jenny's question about some tools I've created for myself using similar methods.
  4. What the heck is a passkey? I feel like even just a year ago, passkeys weren't a big thing, but these days every website seems to be asking us to create one. Here's a good article I read this week about what they are and how they differ from passwords.
  5. Delighted about this grocery hack: This week, I shared this video with a small subset of you (these folks) about a recent find that's saving us quite a bit on groceries, and y'all confirmed in the replies that I'm clearly months (years?!) behind on this trend. Susan said, "We LOVE Thrive Market. It's the easiest (and usually cheapest) way for me to get all our allergen needs met," and Melissa said, "I love Thrive Market! I have had a monthly subscription with them for a few years, and it’s the best." So, anyway, now we're Thrive Market people and we only hang out with other Thrive Market people (just kidding). As I tend to do with things I love, I asked them for a discount for my email friends, and they said yes. Here's what you get with my link: $20 off your first 3 orders, plus a free $60 gift of your choice.

Bonus Sponsor Resource: Become a Booked-Out Virtual Assistant: I met Abbey in real life recently, and she seems like the smartest one when it comes to helping someone build a VA business. If you’re looking for a flexible, stay-at-home career with unlimited growth potential, you’ve got to check out their free training! You’ll learn how to become your own boss as a Virtual Assistant, what clients are looking for, and how to find high-quality leads. I get asked all the time for VA recs, so this is definitely a growing industry. This resource is from one of our Friday Five sponsors - thank you to them for keeping this newsletter free for readers!

Last Friday's Most-Clicked Link: The $7 spray I use for everything from cuts and canker sores to post-workout freshening up!

Where should we donate? As you might know, I donate all affiliate fees I receive from Amazon if you ever buy things through my links. We've got $257 to donate from the last few months. Click below to vote on where we should donate!
