Hi Reader,
My oldest friend, Matt, passed away this week. I got the news in the middle of a work block yesterday, and it knocked the wind out of me. I'm grateful for another friend who dropped everything to spend an hour on the phone with me as I walked around my neighborhood trying to make sense of it. Hug your people, friends.
In the midst of it all, I am genuinely excited to see some of you at next week’s Management Memo Workshop. I’ve got additional fantastic workshops planned in the coming months, and I hope you’ll join us for those as well. I love leading workshops like this, so getting to do that is a balm in hard times.
Let's get to your Friday Five, ok? Matt loved reading Friday Five (he regularly asked if I could make it Friday Ten), and so I'm including some tips I think he'd like today, as a very techy, thoughtful, and health-focused dad of three fun girls that he loved very much.
Gmail Search is Better with AI: Google has implemented some new AI features that make searching your Gmail so much easier! Instead of searching for specific terms or names of the person who sent the email, you can search smarter now—like asking, "What did I agree to for X event?" or "Can you help me find the most recent PPT template sent by Sarah?"
This guide, plus 30-60 mins of your time, will make summer so much better. Summer is fast approaching, and for many in the US, Memorial Day weekend marks the start of their summer activities. If you want some help planning your summer fun, I've long been planning to offer my Summer Fun List Guide for 50% off (making it under $5) for this long weekend here in the US. Make sure you use the code LONGWEEKEND (it’s preloaded using this link for your convenience, but mentioning it just in case the internet gremlins make it disappear). The code works through Monday night.
iPhone Screenshot Hack: Stop fumbling with those side buttons! Your iPhone has a secret screenshot shortcut — just double-tap the back of your phone. Go to Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap → Double Tap, then select Screenshot. That's it. No more accidentally turning off your screen every time you're trying to capture something (or is that just me who does that accidentally...).
My Favorite Spray: I loved seeing Amy holding up a bottle of this on Zoom a few weeks ago that she saw me recommend in Jess's Product Picks. This stuff really is my favorite - I get canker sores about once every month or two, and I only recently realized it works for those too. I love using it to clean cuts (they heal incredibly fast, and it has no sting at all), on my face after a workout to help prevent acne and eczema flare-ups, and in my armpits before deodorant to keep me smelling fresh longer. I even sent a bottle with my middle-schooler to help her stay fresh after her morning PE class.
Book Giveaway: My friend Laura (who also happens to be my favorite nonfiction author) gave me a signed copy of her brand-new book, Big Time (Bookshop | Amazon), to give away. If you'd like to enter, just hit reply and tell me something that has been on your list for a long time but never seems to get done (we all have them, no judgment). I'll use a random picker from everyone who hits reply and then share the winner next week.
